Theodore (Ted) Charles Hartung (LCpl USMC) was born on May 7, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, and left this earth on August 22, 2020, at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
On 5 August 1967, upon completion of Boot Camp, Ted married Elizabeth (Betty) M. Wood. Ted was on active duty from April 10, 1967 to November 30, 1968. He served in Vietnam with 3rd Platoon, I Company, 3rd Battalion/26th Marines, surviving the Siege of Khe Sanh, Hill 881 South, and Quang Tri Valley. His decorations include a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with devices, and a Presidential Unit Citation. Following his time in the Marines, Ted returned to Pennsylvania where he worked as a machinist in a paper mill. Ted was a Life Member of the Marine Corps League, Jack Maas Detachment #1379; and VFW Post 3103; both in Fredericksburg, VA.
Ted is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Wood Hartung, of Boyertown, PA; son Theodore Hartung, Jr. (Shannon), of King George, VA; son Jimmy Hartung (Susan), of Sartell, MN; daughter Stacy Hartung Peterson (Chris), of Austin, TX; numerous grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg, VA 22401, provides cremation and Funeral services. Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery, at 1:00 pm, 3 September 2020. There will be a gathering for family and friends following the service at VFW Post 3103, 2701 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. In lieu of flowers, memorials/donations may be made to the Jack Maas Detachment 1379, P.O. Box 7515, Fredericksburg, VA 22404-7515.
