Dolores Muro Salazar, aged 103 passed away on December 15, 2023 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
Dolores was born on June 1, 1920 in El Paso, Texas. There were eleven people in her family - her parents, nine children and a grandmother who was very special to all of them.
She was a young girl during the "Great Depression" but, as she recalls, it didn't have a great impact on them because they lived on a farm and they grew their own vegetables and had livestock so they were pretty much self- sufficient.
Dolores graduated from Bowie High School, in El Paso. She got married to Pete Salazar Sr. and had two children, Pete Jr. and Edna Mae. She adopted daughter Sylvia. During that time, she attended the University of Texas in El Paso for a few semesters and eventually went to work as a nurse's aide. She worked at Providence Hospital for many years. Sadly, during that time, her husband passed away.
She then worked as a real estate agent until she moved to Virginia to be with her daughter, son-in-law and the grandchildren. At that time, she went to work for a private agency as a live-in companion.
When she retired, she moved back to the southwest where she worked in the public elementary school reading to children and helping them learn to read. It was a wonderful time in her life because she made many new friends who stayed in touch for many years.
She eventually came back to live with her daughter and has been here in Fredericksburg ever since.
Her greatest joy has always been her grandchildren. She is survived by daughter Edna Mae Salazar Gomez, daughter Sylvia Lytsell, brother Alfonso Muro Sr., 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and on August 7, she became a great-great grandmother! We will miss her and hold her memory deep in our hearts.
