Alma C Bass

Alma Corker Bass, 79, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 24, 2010, with her family surrounding her. Alma was born on November 21, 1931, in Caroline County to James Lloyd and Julia Elizabeth (Eisler) Corker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Zack Corker, and her husband, David Brooks Bass. David and Alma were married two months shy of 50 years. She is survived by loving daughters, Hilary Dawn Shampine (Michael) and Heidi Bass, all of Fredericksburg; devoted niece, Kelli Corker Embrey, of Stafford; grandchildren, Leah, Rachel, and Ian Shampine; three siblings, Julia Rosella Gorham (Herman) of Alexandria, Lorene Rich of Colonial Beach, and Vincent Corker (Pat Bell) of Stafford; brother-in-law, Austin Bass (Maggie) of Lititz, PA; sister-in-law, Dottie Tollberg (Stan) of Stafford; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, who were each dear to her heart. She is also survived by daughter Brenda Heddings and granddaughters Jenna Heddings and Kami Fox. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
