Nécrologie de Alfred Duncan
Mr. Alfred Duncan departed this life on Monday, June 26, 2023 at his home in Fredericksburg, VA. He was born July 9, 1943 in Washington, DC to the late John Daniel and Mary Duncan (nee Morton). Al, as he was called by everyone, obtained his GED and afterwards went to work in the federal government. He spent the majority of his career at the Pentagon where he was a planner/estimator for 32 years before retiring. He took pride in his job rarely missing a day and always doing his best. His co-workers were very fond of him and loved his joking manner. In the 1960’s he was part of the singing group The Cavaliers. Along with his brother David and other group members, they recorded and released the song “Do What I Want”. Al loved singing and the group performed regularly at the Ko Ko Lounge in Washington, DC. Al loved to travel. His adventures included trips to Paris, Mississippi, Georgia and other states. After his trip to Paris, he always talked about his wish to eventually retire there. He definitely preferred a car ride over a plane any day and would often take long drives to visit family and friends. He also loved to gamble. Slots and blackjack were his favorite. You could find him at Charlestown, WV, Atlantic City or at one of the Maryland casinos trying his hand. His biggest win was in Biloxi, MS where he hit a large jackpot playing slots. At the time of his passing, Al was married to Elizabeth H. Duncan for 7 years. They met online and cultivated a friendship quickly. After dating for a short time, they decided to tie the knot on February 7, 2017. They enjoyed going on long car rides to visit family and getaways to the casino. They even went on a cruise in 2018, Al’s first. They made many great memories together during their marriage. Liz always wanted to show Al new things and experience everything life had to offer. Even when Al’s health began to deteriorate, Liz was right there by his side taking care of him every step of the way until the time of his passing. He was predeceased by his father, John Daniel Duncan; mother, Mary Duncan; brothers Rudolph, David and Donald; sisters Barbara Jean and Juanita. He leaves to mourn his dedicated, loving wife, Elizabeth H. Duncan; 4 beloved children which include Tonya Duncan of Alexandria, Virginia; Eric Mitchell (Tanya) of Martinsburg, WV; Mark Daily (Barbara) of Biloxi, MS; Toni McCree of Washington, DC and Alfred “Boo” Duncan (Sherrell) of Waldorf, MD; brother, John (Bel-A) Duncan (Barbara) of Washington, DC; Sister-in-law Idell Crossley of Biloxi, MS and 7 grandchildren (Tiyawna, Eric Jr., Yakiya, Chauncey, Blake, Sophia and Royal) as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mullinsthompsonfredericksburg.com for the Duncan family.
