Obituary of Mabel Louise Gardner McFarland

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

In loving memory, the McFarland family announces the passing of our Mother, Mabel Louise Gardner McFarland (known to family and friends as Boots) on March 27th, 2017. Mom was preceded in death by our Dad (Dr Paul H. McFarland, Jr., Col, US Army(ret) and their son Steve. She is survived by her son Rich, his wife Anne, her daughter Pam, her son-in-law Mike, their 2 children (Kelley Ann, Tom and his wife Erin), her great grandchildren (Evan and Austin), and her dearest friend Judy Miller. Our Dad came for her 20 years to the day of his passing. Boots was born May 11th, 1930 in Martinsburg, West Virginia. In pursuit of her love of music, she attended Baltimore’s Peabody Conservatory majoring in voice. She met and married Paul while he was in Dental School at the University of Maryland. They spent the next 30 years traveling the world with the Army Dental Corps retiring to Texas. After her children were off to school, she became a Councilwoman in Missouri City, TX and owned Country Touch, a country interior decorating business. She moved to Patriots Colony Retirement Community in Williamsburg, VA after Paul’s death, where she enjoyed being with her fellow retirees. We are saddened by her passing but happy that she and Dad are together again. We feel blessed to have had them as our Mom and Dad. Graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD on April 1, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to The Tragedy Assistance Program (TAPS) (www.TAPS.org) for the survivors of loved ones who lost their lives in service to our Country or to John Wesley United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, Maryland.
