September 30, 1947 – April 24, 2017
IN THE CARE OF
Nelsen Williamsburg
Dona Kae Journey Fletcher was born at Fort Monroe, Virginia to Jack and Peg Journey and was a lifelong resident of Williamsburg. She started her career in cosmetology at sixteen at Jacqueline’s Beauty Salon, of which she later became owner. Dona Kae was proud that her entire career was with Jacqueline’s, which celebrated 50 continuous years of service in 2016. She was also employed with Williamsburg Landing for 13 years and made many friends with co-workers and residents.
Throughout her long standing illness, she maintained her unique sense of humor, selfless demeanor and positive outlook. Dona Kae was an extraordinary, fun loving, person who was a friend to all and will be missed by those fortunate enough to have known her.
On April 24, 2017, with family at her side, Dona Kae’s spirit moved on. She is survived by her children, Jack Fletcher and Melissa Fletcher (Andrew), her sister Ann Karel Weaver, her brother Buddy Journey (Mona), and nephew Austin Journey.
The beginning of her next journey and celebration of her life will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188 on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 2-4 pm.
Special thanks to: Joann Shearin-Walker, Jo-Ann Cole and Wanda West, “the girls”, and patrons of Jacqueline’s Beauty Salon for making the past 50 years so memorable and Dr. John Miller and staff at the Peninsula Cancer Institute for their care and compassion.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Habitat for Humanity, P. O. Box 1443, Newport News, VA 23601.
