Janet Lee (Sheets) Gibson

Janet Lee (Sheets) Gibson passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024 at home. She was born August 15, 1937 to the late Edgar and Lagretta Wine Sheets. On September 3rd 1953, she was united in marriage to Fred M. Gibson. After 66 years of marriage, Fred preceded her in death on Dec 7, 2019. She is survived by a sister, Lena Robertson; a daughter, Cathy Terry (Nelson); ‘adopted’ son, Jeff Turner (Misty); grandkids: Emma, Samantha and Sara Turner; Randy Terry and Great -grandkids: Ava and Lily Terry; and dear friends Mary Jacot, Lolo Kable, and Jim Landes. Janet Lee spent a lifetime caring for others. She cleaned houses for several doctors and neighbors who enjoyed her company as well as her help. She loved to cook and bake and spent many Christmases making 15-25 dozen cookies to share. She kept a daily journal for decades until a stroke took her ability to write. She appreciated the history of her neighborhood and wanted to remember all she could about even the small happenings. Janet Lee loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren fiercely and enjoyed attending their school functions and sports events with Fred whenever she could. She enjoyed shopping for Christmas gifts for her family and going to Dairy Queen with Fred. At funerals, she could be found with the ladies providing the meal at Salem Lutheran Evangelical Church. Her Hot-milk cake and mashed potato casserole were legendary. The family wishes to thank Jackie Ross of Greenville for her care and generosity; Beverley Brown, Joy Buchanan, and Susan Williams from Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their care and concern. A Memorial service will be held on March 20, 2024 at 11:00, at Salem Lutheran Evangelical Church in Mount Sidney with Pastor Derek Boggs officiating. A meal will follow the service.
