IN THE CARE OF
Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes & Crematory
Wayne Allen Sutton, Jr., went to be with his wife, Patricia Lynn and son James Richard on October 29, 2023.
Wayne was born on May 7, 1950, to Mary Jane (Wheeler) and Wayne Allen Sutton, who have preceded him.
Born in Waynesboro, VA he spent his formative years in the care of his grandmother. He married Lynn in 1970. Shortly thereafter, his first son, Wayne Allen Sutton, III (w. Kelly Olt) was born. Wanting to provide for his new family, and being patriotic, he enlisted in the US Navy. Soon after that, his second son James (w. Amy Isom) was born. He spent 24 years in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1993. Early in his Navy career, the family moved to Norfolk, Virginia where they lived for over 50 years. During and shortly after his military service, he furthered his education by obtaining several bachelor’s degrees and a Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University. He went to work for and retired from the Virginia Beach School System where he proudly taught special education. He was a member of the VFW 4809, a brother of the Freemasons, and attended Riverside Baptist Church in Norfolk. He was the muscle when it came to helping grow the gardens that Lynn loved. He collected baseball cards, model trains, train trading cards, model cars, coins, hallmark ornaments, and apparently tools and car parts. He loved talking about cars, working on cars, and even showing them off as one of the original members of the Mustang Club of Tidewater and continued up until he passed. For a simple man, he loved to learn, even as the effects of life started to take a toll on his capabilities, eventually rendering him 100% disabled per the Veterans Administration (VA). It is with the VA’s support that dad was made comfortable toward the end, and he will receive military honors before being laid to rest at Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Fishersville, VA next to his wife Lynn and son James. His greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughters; Eleni, Chloe (m. Fiona), Shelby, Savannah, and Sarah (m. Amy), and taking them out for the best pizza in town. He had the joy of further acquiring two more grandchildren, Vian and Evar (m. Kelly). May they, along with his many, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends including his best mate, Jerry Hildman, and wife Dot, hold his memory dear in their hearts. While there may be some things, we all feel were left unfinished, if you got to spend time with him, your company and conversation were what he valued most. If you got to turn a wrench with him in the garage fixing up one of his cars or your own, cherish that memory!
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro. Masonic rites will be provided beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Following the visitation, there will be a funeral procession from the funeral home to Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 30 Tinkling Spring Drive, Fishersville, VA for a graveside service with military honors at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
