Obituary of John Arant Butler
John A. Butler, 80, of Waynesboro, VA died on June 19th, 2024 at his home, peacefully, with his wife Diane at his side. John was born in Alcolu, S.C. to LaNeel and Irvin Butler on January 9th, 1944 with his twin Billy. He graduated from Manning High School and continued on to Wofford College where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He was commissioned into the U.S. Army after 4 years of ROTC. John married Diane on November 23rd, 2007 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. He served in the Army and was an advisor in Vietnam in 1968. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sonny, Irvin and Billy. He is survived by his wife, Diane; daughters, Joy and Alison; Diane’s children, James Tramel and wife Katy Kappus, Abigail Miller and husband Neil, Andrew Tramel and wife Elizabeth and Mary Himmelstein and husband Brad. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024 St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 2316 W. Main St., Waynesboro with Pastor Kevin Haynes, Linda Kusse-Wolfe and Father Frances X. Musolooza officiating. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Benedictine Sisters of Virginia Place of Peace, 9535 Linton Hall Road, Bristow, VA. Please send any memorial gifts to the Love Builds Campaign at St. John the Evangelist Church, Waynesboro, VA. John will be interned in A Place of Peace at the Benedictine Monastery in Bristow, VA.
