William E. Sawyer

William Eugene “Bill” Sawyer passed away on March 4, 2013. He was born on Saturday, December 18, 1943 in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of the late William R. and Hattie Sawyer. Bill retired Norfolk Naval Shipyard, as foreman of shop 38. He and his wife Sue were residents of Chesapeake for 31 years before moving to Elizabeth City, North Carolina to fulfill one of Bill’s dreams. Bill was an outdoors men, he loved cookouts with the family, camping, softball and woodworking. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 48 years, Susan Kuzmich Sawyer; his children, Patricia A. Brooks, Christina N. Peterson and her husband Mark and Billie J. Hoal and her husband Joe; six adoring grandchildren, Michael Peterson, Ericka Mercier and her husband Brad, Bryan Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Crystal Keel, and Jacob Hoal, his brother, Barry James Sawyer of Tallahassee, FL; step-mother, Beverly Sawyer and numerous other loving relatives and friends. The family will receive guests on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home with a funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
