Paul Lawrence Kemp, 65, passed away on May 26, 2017. He was born in Jackson, MS. He is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Gibson.
Paul was a 24-year veteran of the US Navy, serving in the Persian Gulf War. He retired as an E7, after which he began his second career as a ship store procurement specialist with the NEX Command at the Little Creek Naval Base. In 2005 he graduated from Saint Leo University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology.
Surviving him are his children: Denise Kemp of Kentwood, LA, Tanoa Kemp (Autumn) of Tampa, FL, and Eric Kemp of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren: Alexis Kemp, Quadajia Kemp, Jayda Kemp, and Isaiah Kemp; great-grandchildren: Ava Robinson and Tahari Holmes; brothers: Herman Tyler and Willi Allen of Lake Charles, LA; and sisters: Carolyn Glass of Lake Charles, LA and Margaret Collins of Baskin, LA.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery.
