Nina V. Long

Nina V. Long, 81, passed away on March 24, 2013. She graduated from Pottsville High School in 1949. She served on the church council at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in 1964 where she was the first female council member. She taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the senior members group and volunteered with the Food Bank of Virginia Beach. She retired from VA Beach Public School System in 1993. She was employed as a Title I Instructional Aide at Bette F. Williams Elementary School. She loved to read and cook for her family and friends. She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Georgr Long; a son, George W. Long and his wife Barbara of Illinois; a daughter, Darcy J. Staker and her husband Thomas of Maryland; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the compassionate care given to our loved one during her short stay at Pacifica Senior Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home on Friday, March 29, 2013. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
