James Theodore Baker, Esq.

James T. Baker, Esq. (Jim) born in Bayonne, New Jersey on February 11, 1934 passed away on June 4, 2023 at the age of 89. He is survived by his devoted wife Violet Marlene Baker of 40 years, his sons Douglas Baker, Patrick McInroy, and his daughters, Katherine Baker. He will be sorely missed by his daughters-in-law Alma Baker, Jennifer McInroy, along with grandchildren Jordan, Gracie and Jax McInroy. Born to the late Cecelia and Adam Baker, he was one of two children in a very loving and close family. He was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn Morris. Jim spent most of his life in the Norfolk area where he served the last 50 years as an attorney at law for which he was most proud. He studied Law, clerked under Barry D. Willis, Jr, Esq. Criminal Defense Attorney. Obtained his Virginia State Bar License February 5th, 1971. Jim was a member of the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association. Jim served as both a Virginia Beach and Norfolk city police officer where his duties ranged from Detective /Robbery Division to Precinct Patrol, Traffic Bureau (accident investigations, radar enforcement and motorcycle squad) Jim served in the United States Army-Training/ 101st Airborne from February 1957 to February 1963. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division Association General William C. Lee Chapter; 82nd Airborne Division Association Hampton Roads Chapter- All Services Units- Fort Monroe, Virginia (Member and Former Chairman). He graduated from Norfolk College of William & Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in History. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 13th at 10:00am at Saint Gregory Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Visitation will be held on Monday evening June 12th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
