Obituary of Richard Gerald Grzesiak
Richard Gerald Grzesiak, 87, of Terre Haute, formerly of Orlando, FL, passed away on October 23, 2011. He was born on May 1, 1924, in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Julia (Wesolek) Grzesiak. He was employed by RR Donnelly in Chicago as a printer for over 35 years and retired to Orlando, FL. He worked at Walt Disney World in Orlando as a fishing guide on Lake Buena Vista. This was something he truly enjoyed. He was an avid fisherman, loved camping, playing pinochle and traveling. He was a Motor-Machinist 3C in the US Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1946 on LSM 142. He was proud of his service in the navy and kept lifelong relationships with his shipmates. It is impossible to sum up Dad’s life in this small space. Richard enjoyed life, had a wonderful, playful, sense of humor, and was a great dad and mentor. He will be missed by those that knew him. Richard is survived by his daughters, Deborah Sitz and her husband, Harold of Dyer, IN, and Dorene Hojnicki and her husband Robert of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Julie Sitz of Denver, CO and David Sitz and his wife Jennifer of Centreville, VA; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Ella Sitz, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 47 years, Lillian (Nowaczyk) Grzesiak, and siblings, Virginia (Marty) Pignoto, Arthur (Alfreda) Grzesiak, Zenon (Elaine) Grzesiak, and Leonard (Loraine) Grzesiak. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 29 from noon until 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. October 29 at the funeral home with Deacon Mike Stratman officiating. Military rites will be performed by VFW Post 972. Burial will take place at a later date at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Orlando, FL.
