Obituary of Michael Jay Murphy
Michael Jay Murphy, 71, of Chandler went to be with the Lord at 4:00 pm Saturday, September 9, 2017, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born to Don & Lela Murphy on October 1, 1945 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Sheila Marie Pruett Murphy, one son, Anthony (Mary) Murphy; three stepsons, David (Debra) Hunt, Derle Wilson, and Craig (Aileen) Hamilton; one stepdaughter, Lisa (Darrel) Jennings; 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his late wife, Audrey K. Murphy, his sister, Donna Murphy, and his parents. Mike graduated Garfield High School in 1963. Early in his career he was the owner/manager of Shamrock Construction before he joined Illini Pella, where he retired as manager after 37 years. Mike enjoyed restoring cars and fishing, and he was a member of Terre Haute Bassmasters. He participated in the Sycamore Bowling League for many years. He was also a former member of both the Clay County Association of Actual Past Masters, Free and Accepted Masons, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. Mike was a past Master of Masonic Lodge #264 in Brazil, Indiana. Mike was a kind, godly man who loved Jesus and will be greatly missed by many. He spent most of his life dedicated to following the Lord and serving others. He attended several churches over many years including Eastside Church of Christ and Crosslane Community Church in Terre Haute, and Crossroads Christian Church and Living Word Christian Church in Warrick County. Although Mike's earthly tasks are now complete, his life will have an impact for many generations. Visitation will be held from 10 to 2 p.m. on Friday, September 15 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Grandi officiating. Michael will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park.
