Karen Grace Phelps

Karen Phelps, 56, of Terre Haute, Indiana and formerly of Carmi, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on May 2nd, 2017 at her residence. She was born on February 23rd, 1961 in Dearborn, Michigan. She is the daughter of Albert and Doris (Schmidt) Barbre. She married Paul Phelps on June 30th, 1980 in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. She cared for everyone around her, and put everyone else first. Her hobby was sewing, and loved making blankets and clothes for her grandchildren. Karen is survived by her daughter, Michelle Lewis and husband Josh of Oakland City, her grandchildren: Christophor, Harleigh, Paul, Johnathon, Oliver; her brothers, Randy Barbre and wife Rose, Tim Barbre and wife Donna, Rodney Barbre and wife Sarah, Jerry Barbre and wife Darlyn; and her best friend Lori Streidl. She was preceded in death by her father Albert Barbre; her mother Doris Barbre; her husband Paul Phelps; a sister Pattie Barbre; a brother Jan Barbre; and a best friend Bill Streidl. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 22, at Centerville Cemetery in Centerville, Illinois at 10:30 a.m. Afterwards, the family will be celebrating Karen’s life with food and blowing bubbles at Burrell Woods (park), in Carmi, Illinois.
