Obituary of Jack Ennis
John (Jack) Dodge Ennis, 88, passed away Monday, July 6, 2020. He was born May 31, 1932 to John Ennis and Florence (Dodge) Ennis in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was a 1950 graduate of Wiley High School. He went on to study at Wabash College, but left to join the Air Force in 1952. He served four years in the Air Force and was stationed in Iceland from 1952–1953 during the Korean War. Before leaving for Iceland, Jack married his high school sweetheart, Shirley (Parish) Ennis on September 14, 1952. On his return to Terre Haute, Jack took over the family business as the owner of Guarantee Roofing Company, Inc., which he ran and owned for fifty-six years. Jack was a passionate outdoorsman and nature lover. Not only was he a founding member of Ducks Unlimited of the Wabash Valley, he also co-hosted the popular locally broadcast television show, The TV Sportsman Show for twenty years from 1958–1978. Devoted to his community, Jack served as president of the Vigo County Park Board for thirty years. Jack truly lived his life to the fullest—bringing energy, passion, and integrity to all he did. He was a deeply loyal man who loved his family with a heart as big as his vibrant personality. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly sixty-eight years, Shirley (Parish) Ennis of Terre Haute; his four children: John Ennis (Marti), Mark Ennis (Michelle), Sarah Reuter (Dan), Amy Brooks (Larry); six grandchildren: Kim Mount, Ceci Spoonmore, Christopher Ennis, Chelsey Brown, Heather Ennis, and Hannah Ennis; seven great-grandchildren; and his elder brother, William (Bill) Ennis. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his honor may be made to the Vigo County Parks Department. Visitation with family will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Roselawn Funeral Home. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
