Obituary of Betty L. Byrley
Betty L. Byrley, 79, of Terre Haute passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Davis Gardens. She was born on July 16, 1934 in Terre Haute to Frank R. and Lenora (Helderman) Rogers. Betty was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, and American Legion Post 104. She retired form Doxsee Foods and Union Hospital. She enjoyed listening to music. Betty loved to shop, especially for purses, she had quite the collection of them. One of Betty’s favorite things to do in the fall was to attend the Covered Bridge Festival. Christmas was Betty’s favorite holiday with family. Most of all, Betty cherished the time she spent with family. She will forever be remembered as a kind woman who would help anyone in need. Betty is survived by her three children: Steve Byrley, Sr. and his wife Susan of Terre Haute, Don Byrley, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Atlanta, GA, and Brenda Smith and her husband Ralph of Terre Haute; sisters Carol Martin and her husband Joe of West Terre Haute and Mary Davis and her husband Lyle of Blackhawk; best friend, Judy Robinson; son-in-law Jack Melvin; grandchildren, Cpl. Steven Byrley, Jr. (USMC) and his wife Shawna, Madison Lynn Byrley, Donald Byrley III, David Byrley, Ralph Smith, Jr. and wife Debbie, Tina Smith Byrley and husband Bruce, Shaun Smith and wife Shelly, Laura Byrley Steward and husband Daniel, Jackie Joe Melvin and companion Crissy, and Chelsie Melvin; 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, several nieces, nephews, and more family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Donald G. Byrley, a daughter Karen Ann Byrley Melvin, a brother Bob Rogers and his wife Patty. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, at the funeral home with Pastor Aaron Wheaton officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
