Doris "Sally" Raines

Doris Dean “Sally” (Fitzgerald) Raines, 69, of Stuarts Draft passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. Born March 13, 1953 in Augusta County she was a daughter of the late Claude Thomas and Lorine Lavell (Fitzgerald) Fitzgerald. Prior to retirement, Doris was employed by Hershey Chocolate of Virginia in Stuarts Draft for 35 years. As an avid shopper, she greatly enjoyed going shopping and buying items to decorate her home for every holiday. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, watching cooking shows and Hallmark movies, and collecting blankets as she was always cold. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Everette Raines; grandson, Daniel Jones; brother, Claude “Glennie” Fitzgerald; three beloved dogs, Lady, Marley, Sadie; and cat, Hutch. Survivors include her two sons, Leo Shiflett of Jacksonville, FL and Willie Shiflett of Goshen, Va; three step-daughters, Amy Raines of Waynesboro, Amanda Sheets and husband, Patrick of Mt. Sidney, and Amber McDaniel and husband, Steven of Charlottesville; grandchildren, Catarina, Adrienne, Autumn, Ashley, Allison, Anna, Nicholas, and Kholton; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Simmons of Stuarts Draft and Lois Eutsler and husband, Dennis of Stuarts Draft; sister-in-law, Linda Fitzgerald of Stuarts Draft; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael “Steve” and Kathy Raines of Grottoes; special friends, Roger Bartley, Barry and Tammy Rhoney, Gary and Tammy Coiner; plus K-9 companion, Cooper. A private graveside service will be held at Mountain Top Christian Church Cemetery, Love, with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Augusta Regional SPCA, P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402.
