Peter William Travis, dearest and most beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and patriot passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, the 19th of June.
Born in East Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1969 and raised in Wyoming, Michigan, Peter was a stellar student who graduated with honors from Rogers High School in 1988. His scholastic abilities and good citizenship earned him an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
After graduation from West Point in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Literature and the Armor Officer Basic Course in 1993, he served as Platoon Commander in the 1st Cavalry Division, 2nd Armored Division and 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Fort Hood, Texas leading 15 enlisted troopers and their 4 M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks. Following his duty at Fort Hood, Peter graduated from the Engineer Officer Advance Course at Fort Leonard Wood and then was a Squadron Operations Officer(S-3) and Headquarters Company Commander in the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. His service in the Army inspired a life-long passion of service to his Country.
After resigning his commission from the military, Peter pursued other opportunities to support soldiers in their defense of freedom. As a contractor, he undertook projects to rapidly develop, test and implement unique solutions to address soldier needs in the field. He then went on to become a civil servant under the United States Army where he focused on program and system improvements necessary to increase transparency across Army human capital systems.
Peter's love for his Country is only surpassed by his love for his family. He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed introducing his children to the beauty that can be found in literature and the arts. He loved to travel and explore, and frequently provided a military history lesson significant to each place visited. Peter lifted others with his humor and excellent storytelling abilities. He loved the outdoors, boating, fishing, paintball and all the things that brought family and friends together.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Alexandra, his adoring children James, Luke and Peter, his mother Charlene, his siblings Jim and Kate, his mother & father-in-law, Janice and George Westover,brother- in- law Manny Yanez, sister-in-law Melanie Yanez and his extended family.
