James Eugene McFarland, 88, of Burke, VA passed away July 16 in Fairfax, VA. James was born to Luther and Ethel McFarland on December 13, 1935 in La Junta, Colorado Family background: father a minister in the Reformed Presbyterian Church in North America Childhood: in La Junta, CO, Belle Center, OH, and Montclair, NJ. Education: Geneva College,1958, BSBA, Business Ad. Minor in Education. Work experience: Jr. High Public school teacher, East Liverpool, OH. Further Education: Reformed Presbyterian Seminary in Pittsburgh, PA Faith Theological Seminary, M.Div. 1965. Pastoral experience: Allenwood Protestant Church, Wall Twp., NJ Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Port St. John, FL Teaching experience: Bible teacher Faith Christian School, Collingswood, NJ Work experience: Reformation Hour Broadcast of the Bible Presbyterian Church Dean and Registrar Faith Theological Seminary Adjunct professor Korean Presbyterian Seminary, NYC. (In 1997 moved to Florida with his wife to live with his wife's 91 year old mother, to care for her.) Public school substitute teacher,Titusville, FL. Family: married to Helen Winifred Pakala in Wilkinsburg, PA, December 27, 1962 Children: Marjorie Edythe McFarland/Gordon L. Oliver James Stephen McFarland/Denise Julane Laxton Paul Luther McFarland/Kathleen Audrey Foster Grandchildren: Jared Andrew Oliver, Justin David Oliver, Colin James McFarland, Marlena Lynn McFarland, Tabitha Joy McFarland He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marion Luther McFarland, father and mother-in-law William and Edythe Pakala, brother and sister-in law, George and Lennice Pakala. James is survived by his wife and children and grandchildren and by his brother-in-law James Pakala, sisters-in law, Denise Pakala and Shirley McFarland, 6 nephews, 3 nieces, 13 great nephews,13 great nieces and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. Committal service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 22, at Fairfax Memorial Cemetery, with Pastor Porter Harlow of Burke Presbyterian Church officiating. No flowers; memorials may be given to IBPFM, PO Box 1346, Blue Bell, PA, 19422-0435 (Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign Missions)
