Edward Torrence

Edward Torrence, son of Bennie and Maude Torrence was born on February 28, 1941. He departed this life on November 12, 2022 in Springfield, VA.
Ed received his early education in the public schools of Orange County FL ultimately graduating from Phyliss Wheatley High School in Apopka, FL in 1959. Ed additionally earned an Associate’s Degree from Phoenix University. In addition, numerous credits from Southwest Texas State University.
In 1960 Ed joined the United States Air Force where he served for 22 years. His service included assignments to Libya N. Africa, Lakenheath, England, Da Nang Viet Nam, Denver, CO, Andrews AFB, Maryland, Recruiting Command Washington DC and Lackland AFB San Antonio, TX.
While serving our nation Ed was recognized with the following awards:
* Meritorious Service Medal
* The Air Force Commendation Medal
* Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/ Silver Oak Leaf Cluster
* The National Defense Service Medal
* Viet Nam Service medal w/ 4 Bronze Service Stars
* Viet Nam Gallantry Cross w/ Palm
* Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal
* Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/ Valor device and 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster
* Numerous other Commendation Awards
In addition to his Air Force career, Ed served for 11 years as a DOD Civilian at Walter Reed Army Hospital.
After a distinguished military career Ed transitioned into entrepreneurships. His ventures included owning a Red-Carpet Real Estate agency, multiple rental properties and the E & G convenience store/BBQ stand. It was at this store that Ed perfected his recipe for preparing Texas Brisket that was so enjoyed by customers, family, and friends.
During an assignment to England Ed met Maryanne McEwan. They were married in of February 1965. The union was blessed with two children, Amanda Louise and Mark Edward.
Remaining to cherish his memory is his loving wife Maryanne, their Children: Amanda Harris, Mark (Kyung) Torrence. Grandchildren: Jeffrey Harris, Jessica Harris, Kendall Torrence, Mark Torrence and Mia Torrence. Greatgrandchildren: Zavian Harris-Wilson. Sisters: Beaulah Babbs, Joyce Warren and Edith Jackson. And a host of other relatives and friends.
