Obituary of Charles Thomas Brown

Charles Thomas Brown, 85 of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on April 2, 2022, in Alexandria, Virginia. Charles was born in Richmond, Virginia to Annie Bruce Brown and Charles O’Ferrell Brown on May 8, 1936. Charles graduated from John Marshall High School in Richmond, Virginia. Charles often helped his father at their family’s produce stand located near the train station in downtown Richmond. His Post-Secondary education found him in Blacksburg, Virginia where he graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was drafted into the Army and served for 2 years after which he worked for PEPCO. However, most of his career was working for the Department of Defense, supporting the Department of the Navy. Charles was a lucky man to have found love twice. He married Martha Jean Sandy on June 27th, 1964, after meeting her at PEPCO. They enjoyed a wonderful life together raising two sons. Martha lost her battle to cancer in 2003. In retirement, Charles volunteered throughout the DC area to teach senior citizens how to use computers and computer software. He also had a part-time job working as Concierge at the Assisted Living building in the Lincolnia Senior complex where Kathryn Fernandez caught his eye. Kathryn was taking Ballroom Dancing classes in the recreation building of the complex. They married on June 25, 2005. Charles and Kathryn enjoyed their travels around the world and splitting their time between their home in Alexandria, Virginia, and Kathryn’s home in Western New York. Charles is survived by his wife Kathryn Fernandez Brown, his sons Charles S. Brown and David A. Brown, David’s wife Amy S. Brown, his grandson Jack Charles Brown as well as Kathryn’s son David Fernandez, his wife Allison Seaman, Kathryn’s daughter Alicia Hogan and her two daughters, Alexandra and Devin. Visitation will be held starting at 1pm on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, with the Memorial service to follow at 2pm at the DeMaine Funeral Home located at 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, Virginia 22151. Burial to take place in Sistersville, West Virginia on Friday, April 15, 2022, where Charles will be laid to rest next to Martha.
