Obituary of James William Flippin
Licensed Brother, James William Flippin, 68, of Stuart, died Monday, December 2, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Martinsville. He was born in Critz, VA, November 27, 1945 to James Elgy Flippin and Annice Wood Flippin, both deceased. He attended Hardin Reynolds Memorial School and was a farmer and went to work for Bassett-Walker Knitting Co., in 1976 until they closed in 1998. He was devoted to the Primitive Baptist faith and joined Old Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church, later moving his membership in 1965 to Jack’s Creek. James felt a calling on his life to preach the Gospel; and on the third Saturday of June, 1995, he requested to speak at Jack’s Creek meeting. James was licensed as a minister through Jack’s Creek, but due to his illness did not have the opportunity to become ordained. James and his mother moved their membership to Stuart Primitive Baptist Church in 2002 to be closer to his home. James was an only child, but through special friendships, considered the late Allen Hopkins and Frances as his extended family. James was grateful to the Hopkins family, Frances, Allen, who cared for him during the passing of his mother and during his illness. Surviving is, Frances J. Hopkins of Stuart, Frances’s children and their spouses, Amy and Nick Pendleton, Christy and Barry Handy and Lisa Joyce, Frances’s three grandchildren, Elian and Christian Pendleton, Madison Handy and Brandy and Christopher Bembry, great-great grandson, Noah Bembry; special friends, Ray and Betty Robertson and several cousins.
