Brenda Lacy Jenkins

74, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 after a long illness. She was born on July 16, 1949, and lived in Goochland County for most of her life. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Chestnut Grove Assisted Living in Richmond, VA. Brenda graduated from Goochland High school in 1967 and attended Averett College. She worked as a receptionist for the Thompson, Smithers, Newman, Wade, and Childress Law Firm for more than forty years. Salem Baptist Church in Crozier, VA was her church home for many years, and Brenda formed many special friendships there. Her church community was a great comfort to her. Brenda loved children, and she served as a sitter and caregiver for many young ones over the years. Watching them change and grow brought her much joy. Brenda truly delighted in their childhood antics, and she told many cute stories about her experiences taking care of little ones. Her face would light up whenever she was in the presence of children. An avid reader, Brenda enjoyed reading a new book well into the night. Family members often teased her about her night owl ways. Planting flowers was a favorite pastime for Brenda. Having flowers in bloom made her very happy, and she took meticulous care of them. Brenda also loved the holidays and cooking large and traditional meals for her family was very special to her. Snapping pictures of everything was probably Brenda’s favorite hobby. She filled many an album with pictures of family and friends, parties, birthdays, weddings, and trips. Her collection of pictures was expansive, and with it, Brenda created a peek into days past, prompting both laughter and sweet memories. Brenda loved her home state of Virginia, particularly the colonial atmosphere and quaint shops she explored in Williamsburg. As a beach lover, Brenda often found herself bound for Virginia Beach in the Summer to relax in the sun and sand, book in hand. Above all Brenda loved her family, and she took care of her mother, Millie Lacy, at home until she passed away in March of 2016. Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mildred Lacy; brother, William Lacy; and nephew, Dylan Lacy. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Lacy, Jr. (Paula); niece, Tara Tench; nephew, Joseph Lacy, III (Brittany); nephew, Justin Lacy (Brittany); nephew, Chad Lacy (Meghan); great-nieces, Lacy Tench and Windsor Lacy; and great-nephews, Bryce Tench, Branson Lacy, and Everett Lacy. Brenda is also survived by a devoted cousin, Sandra Taylor, and dear friends the Dowdy family of Goochland. A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229 where a funeral service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Goochland Fire and Rescue.
