H. Dewight McAfee

H. Dewight McAfee, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 5, 2015. Born March 23, 1933 in Wells County, he was the son of the late C. Herman McAfee and Ilo (Snarr) McAfee. He graduated from Ossian High School in 1951 and worked at the Chevy garage in Ossian before enlisting in the United States Air Force. After the service, he worked as an engineer at International Harvester/Navistar in Fort Wayne for more than 30 years. Dewight played fast-pitch softball in Ossian and bowled for many years at the Bluffton Bowling Center. He loved the New York Yankees, NCAA Basketball and Football, playing Euchre, Pinochle, and Bridge and attending Ossian and Norwell sporting events. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Beverly (Moser) McAfee and his daughter Julie McAfee. He is survived by his brother, Robert (June) McAfee; his two sisters, Audrey (Don) Relue and Marylynn (Bernie) Lee; his sister -in-law, Marilyn (Tom) Somers; three children, David (Rose) McAfee of Ossian, Daniel (Cindy) McAfee of Ft. Wayne, and Lynda (Rod) Myers of Ft. Wayne. Surviving also are nine grandchildren, Amy McAfee, Michael (Mandy) McAfee, Tim (Beth) McAfee, Ryan (Rebecca) McAfee, Jon McAfee, Leigh (Neal) Lewis, Paige (Quinn) Ruich, Amanda McAfee, Katie McAfee and five great grandchildren, Caleb, Parker, Anthony, Colin, and Phineas. Funeral service will be 7:00 pm on Thursday Sept. 10, 2015 at Elzey Patterson Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill Street, Ossian with visitation from 12:00 – 2:00 pm and from 4:00 pm until service time. Preferred memorials are to the Calvary United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne or the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice Home.
