Vernon William King

Vernon William King, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2015. He was born to the late Samson L. and Berta B. King in Norfolk, VA. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years Elizabeth D. King. He served in the Merchant Marines and worked in outdoor advertising for 50 years, retiring as co-owner of Artlite Sign Company in 2000. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church and the John Wesley Sunday school class. He was also a member of the Norview Lions Club, Norview Masonic Lodge #113, and Virginia Beach Shrine Club Khedive Temple. Survivors include his son, Vernon W. King, Jr. and his wife Ann; granddaughters Ashley King (Andrew), Katie Johnson (Tyler), Whitney Vanderslice (Adam); and six great-grandchildren, Madison, Lillianne, Andrew, Aubrey, Brooklyn, and Evelyn; a special friend of 15 years Eileen Brink and her family. The family would like to give a special thanks to Sheila Sjogren and the Grace Hospice Team for their care and support. A visitation will be held Sunday, July 26th from 6pm-8pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA. A Celebration of his life will be Monday at 11am at the funeral home.
