Kevin D. Span

Kevin David Span, 59, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1st 2018, at his home in Fairfax, VA. Kevin was born in Monterey, CA, to Mary Irene Span (Funk) and Captain William F. Span USN Ret. Kevin grew up in Virginia Beach, VA, and graduated from Cox High School in 1976. After high school, he attended Elon College for 2 years before moving to Northern Virginia. Kevin found an interest in the telecommunications field and quickly launched a career in vendor relationships. He worked in the industry for 20 years and was employed by Winstar, Teligent, and most recently Teliasonera. On October 28th, 1995, Kevin married Neila Suzan Chrisman in Middleburg, VA. They had two children together: Nicholas Edward Span and Michael William Span. Kevin and his family were long term residents of Bristow, VA. They spent their summers in Wintergreen, where he could often be found in the woods collecting arrowheads with his boys. In his neighborhood, Kevin was an avid tennis player and often made friends with others who were at the court playing. If you happened to be there, but didn't play tennis, he would teach you. Kevin was a caring and loving father, son, brother, and friend who had a heart full of love and grace for all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Kevin enjoyed the outdoors. He loved being on the golf course or on his bass boat with his neighborhood buddies. He also enjoyed deer hunting with his father and his brother, Greg. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and for always making people laugh with his quick wit. By the same token, Kevin was kind-hearted and would not hesitate to share with you a few words of wisdom. Kevin was loved by many and will be missed by all. “I am the resurrection and the life, whoever believes in me will live, even though they may die.” John 11: 25-26 Kevin is survived by two sons, Nicholas Edward and Michael William, his father Captain William F. Span USN Ret., two brothers, William J. Span (Melanie) and Gregory Span, and three nieces. Kevin is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Irene Span, who recently passed away. Kevin adored his mother and always made her day with a quick phone call each morning on his way to work. A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502 at 4 PM.
