Obituary of Ernest Edgar Childs Sr.
Ernest Edgar Childs Sr. "Ernie", born on January 11, 1933, let go of his daughters hand on Earth and took his wife's hand in Heaven on January 16th 2022. He grew up in New England during the Great Depression. He was an amazing man, he lived an extraordinary life, he was a jack-of-all-trades, a natural storyteller and a comedian. He never met a stranger. Ernie loved the outdoors, wildlife and especially birds, as well as both the adventures of travel and the comforts of home. Over all else in life, he loved and greatly valued his family. As a Korean War Veteran, Regular Army (which meant that in a time of draft , he volunteered), he attributed surviving that war to paying attention and being there on purpose. Ernie met the love of his life , June, on an assignment from his post in Tidewater, a year later they were married and began the foundation of what would be a beautiful life of 64 years together before he was left to carry on without his "Junebug". Three years after they married, they began their family and the rest of the story is a colorful and lush history filled with love and too many anecdotes to tell here! Ernie is survived by his sister, Jaqueline (Lloyd) Cushing; brother, William 'Billy' (Vernan) Childs; his sister in love, Opal Lanette (Ted) Egress and sister in love, Darcy Childs; his daughter, Deborah June Childs 'Debbie'; son, Ernest Edgar Childs Jr. ' Eddie'; his grandchildren, Yvonne Marie (Andrew) Smiley, Amy Louise Childs (Blide), Amber Nicole Childs (Sturdivant), and Joseph Adam Childs; great-grandchildren, Sean Anthony Blide, Leila Marie Blide, Edward Elexander Smiley, Ameliana June Childs, Jaimason Anthony Sturdivant, Kamden Leon Sturdivant. As well as many nieces and nephews from every corner of the family. Along with his beloved soulmate June; he will be met by many who preceded him, his beloved mother, Thelma Adaline MacKenzie; his biological father, Irving Fish and father, John William Childs (Jack, Sr.); infant sister, Sadie-Jean (Sally); brothers, Jack Childs and Joe Childs; sister in love, Amy Louise Griffin; granddaughter, Jamie Diane Childs and great-granddaughter, June Embla Smiley. He is definitely surrounded by loved ones here and beyond.
