Daniel Joseph McGowan

Daniel J. McGowan of Virginia Beach passed away on November 4th at the age of 80. Son of James and Mary McGowan, he was born in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania on March 6th, 1939. A veteran of the Navy, Daniel served in Vietnam and later went to work for Stihl chainsaw company in Virginia Beach until his retirement in 2002. He was an occasional volunteer at Woodstock Elementary School, where his son works as a teacher. Daniel was a devoted husband who celebrated his 51st wedding anniversary this year with his wife, Mary. He was also a good father, raising two sons, James and Michael. Daniel is survived by his sons, his brothers Jack and Joe, and three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is preceded by his brothers Tommy and Jimmy and his wife Mary. A viewing will be held on Monday, November 11th at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach at 9:30 a.m. with services to follow at 10:30. Afterwards he will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery on E. Virginia Beach Boulevard. Arrangements are organized by Woodlawn Funeral Home. Call (757) 455-2838 for more information.
