Obituary of John M. Schroder
John M. Schroder, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024. He was born and raised in Lincoln, IN to the late Glenn and Freda (Thurman) Schroder March 27, 1948. He graduated from Dale High School in 1966. John attended Indiana University for a year, and then transferred to Indiana State University, Evansville Campus (currently University of Southern Indiana), graduating in 1971 with a B.S. in Business Management. He went back to school in 1977 and completed a M.S. in Public Administration in 1979. He also completed a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from the University of Southern Indiana in 2003. During high school and college, he worked at Santa Claus Land (now Holiday World) and Lincoln State Park as a Lifeguard. He worked at WEHT-TV from late 1970 to early 1972 as a Cameraman and then as a Production Editor. He started as a Caseworker at the Vanderburgh County Welfare Department in 1972 and became a Supervisor in 1974. John was the County Welfare Director in Dubois County from 1976 to 1978 and then returned to Vanderburgh County DPW in 1978. He was the Assistant Director at what is now the Vanderburgh County Department of Child Services from 1976 to 2008. In late 2008 he became a Regional Financial Manager for the Indiana Department of Child Services covering 13 counties, retiring in 2014. In the late 1980’s he taught part-time at Lockyear College and was an Adjunct Instructor at Ivy Tech Community College teaching various political science courses. John enjoyed trains and model railroads, target shooting, had a love/hate relationship with computers and enjoyed a good party. He enjoyed traveling when he and his wife were able. They lived in Evansville since 1978 and had a condominium in St. Petersburg, FL. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lochall; daughter, Christina Pruett (John), and grandsons, Nathaniel, Connor, and Parker. Friends and family may gather for a Visitation on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, Newburgh, Indiana and again on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with final resting place at Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gentryville, Indiana next to his parents.
