Thelma K. Shine, age 98, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024. Thelma was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on July 24, 1926, to the late Clarence and Anna Knoop. She was married to the love of her life of 41 years, the late Morris John Shine. Thelma graduated from the University of Louisville School of Music and later became a piano teacher and kindergarten music teacher. She played the organ at St. Stephen United Church of Christ and Cloverleaf Baptist Church. Over the years, she has played for over 200 weddings as an organist.
Thelma enjoyed fellowshipping with people. One of her favorite pastimes was playing games, even games she made herself. She excelled at generosity of time, talent, and treasure. Her grandchildren called her Grandy, and as a grandmother, she enjoyed adventurous times with them. Thelma was committed to serving Christ in any capacity He led her. She exemplified Philippians 4:4, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I say rejoice."
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Morris John Shine.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Sharon Melton (David); grandchildren, Heather Atkinson (Craig), Jonathan Melton, and Charles Melton (Ollie); great-grandchildren, Brinley, Carter, and Holly Atkinson; and numerous cousins that she loved very much.
