ROBERT J. DIEHL, 79, entered into eternal life Sunday, June 4, 2017. The son of the late Charles Diehl and Mary Diehl Kozdron, Bob was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service, including active duty in the Vietnam War. Bob then went on to also retire from the United States Postal Service after 22 years. In addition, he worked for Caesars Casino and Crystal Cruise Line for 10 years, allowing him to travel even more of the world. During these years, Bob graduated from IUS and became a counselor in the AA community helping many people. He loved sports, including playing softball and bowling for many years. He was an avid gardener, reader, photographer, the fun neighborhood dad, aka “Mr. Diehl”, and most of all a family man who cared deeply for all of us. In return he is beloved by all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternity by his brother, Charles Diehl; and a sister, Mabel MacCash. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Shirley A. (Meyer) Diehl; children, Robert J. Diehl, Jr., Timothy Diehl (Vicki), Christopher Diehl (Brenda), and Lisa Diehl (Kim Leet); sisters, Lorraine Byrne and Mary Valenti; grandchildren, Ashley Avis (Branden), Tyler Diehl, Zachary Diehl, and Stephanie Diehl; and great grandsons, Owen and Brooks Avis.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, June 10th from 10:00 am ~ 2:00 pm at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will follow visitation at 2:00 pm in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel. In honor of his service to his country, his final resting place will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
