Richard Roy Sluder
September 1, 1940 – January 14, 2016

Richard Roy Sluder, 75, died Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. He was born September 1, 1940 in Clay Co., Indiana to the late Roy and Hala B. (Neal) Sluder. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Forest and Neal Sluder. He was in the US Army National Guard full time and retired after many years of service as an E9 Sergeant Major and a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 355 in New Albany. He also volunteered with AARP to help those in need with their taxes, was active in Parents without Partners, and was an exceptional high school basketball and baseball athlete. He enjoyed bowling, even beating pros at a charity event, and was a lifelong fan of IU or anyone playing Kentucky.
He is survived by his children, Heidi Riehl and her husband, Matt, Sherry Sluder, and Derek Sluder and his wife, Jill; sisters, Kathryn Fisk and Ruth Strahla; grandchildren, Sean Sluder and his wife, Angel, Autumn Grant, Nate Sluder, Brendon Pee, Rebecca Pee, Kathryn Pee, Zachary Riehl, and Kiara Riehl; and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with entombment to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
