Obituary of James "Jim" David Duer
James (Jim) David Duer, 81, of Floyds Knobs, IN was born May 22nd, 1942, to John and Lusada Duer in New Albany. He passed peacefully on March 23, 2024, from heart failure. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister Jean Tichenor (Duer) Jim graduated from New Albany High School in 1961. He then served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 through 1968 aboard the USS Liberty. He married Patricia Ann McCune on October 12th, 1974. They were happily married and for 49 years and resided on Jersey Park Road for 47 years. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his son, Paul Duer (Carrie McClannen Duer) and his two grandchildren Alex David Duer and Lucas William Duer. Jim spent his working career as a mechanical engineer with a number of local firms, retiring from Phillip Moris Louisville. If you knew Jim, you liked him, it was that simple. Like many of his lifelong friends, he had a love for fast cars and good times spent working or talking about them. He was an expert woodsman who could be found at his best caring for the woods around his home. To his family he was loved and admired for his stability and compassion. He was a most loving husband; a role model father and the best papaw two boys could ever want. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in May at his home on Jersey Park.
