Obituary of Herman "Sammy" Joseph Banet Jr.
Herman "Sammy" Joseph Banet Jr., 80, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana passed away surrounded by his loving family at Floyd Memorial Hospital on June 1, 2023. Sammy was born on August 14, 1942 in Floyds Knobs, Indiana to his parents Herman Joseph Banet Sr. and Grace Marie Falkenstein. He was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Providence High School. He married the love of his life Linda Sue Garvin in 1972. To this beautiful marriage one daughter, Jodi, and one son, Brad, were born. Sammy was a jack of all trades throughout his career. He was a superintendent at the Floyd County Road Department, a police officer at Floyd County Police Department, a car salesman, and horse trainer. Sammy was a legend around town as a card shark and could be found at Irvin's most evenings when that fine establishment was still around. If he wasn't playing cards, he was racing horsepower. Between training horses at Cook's Training Center, racing winning race horses at local horse tracks, or setting speed records with his first love, his cherry red 1966 Chevy Chevelle 396 4 speed Super Sport at Ohio Valley Drag Strip. Husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, but the name he loved the most was Papa. He loved his grandchildren; Jase, Jax, Eli, Grace and Sierra more than anything. His wife, children and grandchildren were his greatest joys. He loved going to their games and in his latter years loved hearing about their sports and treating them with dollar bills for a job well done. Though Sammy's earthly experience has expired and he now gets to rejoice in the comforts of God's eternal kingdom those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years Linda, daughter Jodi Robinson (Jason), son Brad (Carolyn), grandchildren, sisters, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Doloris and Melvin Englemen, Bea and Fiddle Fife, Junie Fritz, Stuart Fife, Jeffrey Schmidt, Kenny Englemen, Ralph Lilly and Becky Smith. A special thank you to his amazing caregivers; Erica, Val, Janet, Maria, Rose, and Ashley. You each have been a blessing to our family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
