Obituary of Carl H. Wolford
CARL H. WOLFORD, 96 years of age died peacefully, Sunday, October 1, 2023 at the Villages of Historic Silvercrest in New Albany, Indiana. Carl was born in New Albany, Indiana to the late Herman and Clara Korbe Wolford. He graduated from St. Mary’s New Albany grade school, New Albany High School and was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He worked in sales beginning with the old Willett Furniture Co. followed by many years with the Folgers Coffee Company and Proctor & Gamble Company where he retired. He was an Army staff sergeant in WWII having participated in the post war occupation of Japan. He was a founding and active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany. Carl generously shared his time, talent and treasure with many organizations, St. Vincent DePaul being one of his favorites. More importantly, Carl was a friend to all. He never met a stranger. He was always thoughtful and kind with an endearing sense of humor. He was a true gentleman. He will be deeply missed. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Kay Osbourn, his parents Herman and Clara Korbe Wolford, brother Bob Wolford, sisters, Mary Lee Finger, Dottie Fell and nephew Tom Grove. He is survived by his sister, Trudy Wolford Grove, numerous nieces, nephews and close family friends. His visitation will be from Noon - 5 pm Wednesday, October 4th at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St., New Albany. His funeral mass will be held 1:30 pm Thursday, October 5th at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors. A rosary service will be at Noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions in Carl’s memory may go to Holy Family Catholic Church or the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Holy Family.
