Obituary of Jimmie L. Faulkner
Jimmy ("Jim") Faulkner, 86, of Yorktown, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born in Clearfield, Kentucky, on Monday, January 7, 1935, to Hollie and Maude (Davis) Faulkner, and came to Muncie with his parents in 1942. While attending Yorktown High School, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force, serving in Japan and Korea. Upon returning, Jim attended Ball State University and eventually Boise State, where he received a Master's in Art. He became a Professor at Ball State University in the Art Department, and continued to share his talents with students for many, many years. He traveled extensively, doing paintings and sculptures. He was a well-known Indiana artist, and his art is prominently displayed in many locations around the Midwest, including locally at Minnetrista, Ball State University, Ball Memorial Hospital, and many municipal/business offices and private homes. In the 1960’s, actor Vincent Price purchased one of Jim's sculptures at a show for his own home. Jim and his friend David Dale's art was also featured in the Winter 2007 issue of Minnetrista Quarterly magazine. Just last year, Jim placed first in a contest to have his artwork placed on a commercial Christmas card. Jim had a natural teaching talent, and taught his younger brother Michael art techniques at a young age. Jim also gave private art lessons at his studio/farm north of Yorktown on Division Road for many years. Jim and Eleanor loved animals. This would lead them to become co-founders of Action for Animals, and start up some animal rescues in Indiana. Jim is survived by his brother, Michael (Kathy) Faulkner of Florida; a nephew, William (Linda) Peterson of Parker City; a niece, Debbie Bowers of Muncie; several other nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Eleanor, who passed away in February 2016; both parents, Hollie and Maude; a brother, Jack Faulkner; and a sister, Helen Peterson. As per Jim’s wishes, cremation will take place. Elm Ridge Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements. A celebratory display of Jim's art and life will be held when COVID permits, hopefully in late spring or summer 2021 at Gordy Fine Art & Framing in downtown Muncie. The family would like to thank The Woodlands for the very special care given to Jim during his stay there. If you would like to remember Jim, please support your local, regional and national animal rescue and shelter organizations. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.elmridgefuneralhome.com for the Faulkner family.
