Obituary of Robert Edward Eicher
EICHER, Robert E., of Midlothian, Va., died on Saturday, October 2, 2010. He was born on May 4, 1936 in Norfolk, Va. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kwang "Pat" Eicher; his son, James W. Eicher; and daughter-in-law, Patty, both of Henrico County; his stepson, Lloyd Morris of Midlothian; brother, Ronald L. Eicher of Norfolk, Va.; sister, Barbara E. Taylor and her husband, Alvin, and their daughter, Jenny, of Norfolk; and sister, Linda E. Wunderlich and her husband, Steve, and their daughter, Debbie, and son, Caleb, of Vinemont, Ala. He is also survived by daughter, Alexandria S. Campos and her husband, Miguel, and son, Joshua, of Oxnard, Calif.; and stepchildren, Lindsay B. Wilhoit and Jason Wilhoit of Richmond, Va. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Flossie Eicher. In 1958, he received a B.A. with honors from the University of Virginia. In 1961, he received an L.L.B. from the law school. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Raven Society. In law school, he was writing director of the Student Legal Research Group and a faculty student assistant. After passing the State Bar Examination in 1960, following his second year in law school, he practiced law with Copenhaver & Tremblay in Charlottesville for several months before he entered active duty in April of 1965 as a Judge Advocate in the Air Force. He was discharged on February 28, 1965 as a Captain and joined Williams Mullen on March 8, 1965, where he served as the firm's counsel for a number of years. During his career, he served on the State Bar's Professionalism Course faculty for three years, the Legal Ethics Committee for seven years (chairman for two years), Lawyer Discipline Committee for four years, and Disciplinary Board for six years (chairman in the sixth year). He was an author and lecturer for the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Virginia State Bar. He was inducted as a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation in 2001 and awarded the Richmond Bar Association's Professionalism Award in 2008. He was proud of Williams Mullen and the opportunities it afforded him to pursue excellence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tomahawk Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home on Huguenot Road. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 6 at 5 p.m. at Tomahawk Baptist Church.
