Mary Louise Pennell

Ms. Mary Louise Pennell, age 82, of Mechanicsville, Virginia passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024. She was preceded in death by parents, Lewis and Louise Smith and sister, Jean Utley. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Danny Pennell; brothers, Lewis Smith Jr. (Delores) and Charles Smith (Margo); and her beloved dogs, Marley and Babydog. Mary Lou dedicated 46 years of her career to Reynolds Metals Company, where she excelled as the head of the consumer division. Her commitment and leadership were a testament to her work ethic and passion for the industry. A lifelong member of Lebanon Methodist Church, Mary Lou’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of the church choir, a lay speaker, and served on numerous committees. Her generosity and compassion were especially evident during Thanksgiving, when she and Danny volunteered with CARITAS, ensuring the community had food and support. Mary Lou also cherished her time spent playing bridge with her close-knit group of friends, finding joy and companionship in their gatherings. The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116. A Funeral service will begin at 9:30 am on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Lebanon Methodist Church, 8492 Peaks Rd, Hanover, VA 23069.
