Obituary of Lloyd Alexander Jordan Jr.
Lloyd Alexander (Alex) Jordan, Jr., 86, of 1110 Knollwood Place in Martinsville, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born in Richmond, VA on July 11, 1925 to Lloyd A.and Beatrice Williamson Jordan. Alex graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, University of Richmond and the T.C. Williams School of Law, all in Richmond. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII in China, Burma and India. He was a lifetime member of the Hump Pilots Association. Alex was employed in mortgage banking for more than 36 years, retiring from the Mortgage Company of Virginia (now a subsidiary of Carter Bank and Trust), where he was an officer and a director. He was a former director of the Virginia Mortgage Brokers Association, the Kiwanis Club, Mt. Olivet Ruritan Club and Martinsville/Henry County YMCA. He also served as a member of Martinsville SCORE Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville where he was a lifetime deacon and served on various committees during a 50 year period. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Gayle Jordan. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kelly Jordan of the residence; two sons, Dr. James A. Jordan and wife, Sandra Woodall Jordan of Martinsville, Carter L. Jordan and wife, Mary Lyn Spencer Jordan of Lewisville, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Jordan of Richmond, Carolyn Greene and husband, Richard Greene of Newport News; one brother, Bill Jordan of Richmond, five grandchildren, Josh, Spencer, Mary Carter, Caroline and Riggs and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Martinsville with Dr. Dennis Knight and Rev. John Fulcher officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private.
