Obituary of John P. Yeaman
John Pannill Yeaman, Sr., 71, of Martinsville, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. He was born in Martinsville on April 21, 1944 to John Williams Yeaman and Christine Pannill Yeaman. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother David. John was a devoted and loving husband to Loretta, and father to Johnny and Lori. He loved his family, his animals, and his farm, where he could most often be found on his tractor. John was a life-long member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he loved and served his church as the junior warden, vestry member, and general “fix-it man.” He attended Martinsville High School, graduated from Virginia Episcopal School, and completed post-grad at Staunton Military Academy. He attended Hampden-Sydney College and Roanoke College, and then served in the Army National Guard. He retired from Guardsman Chemicals and became a land developer in Henry County. He most proudly had the vision for and developed Hunt County Farms on the land that he so loved. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, NRA, and NWTF. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and waterfowl conservation, and for many years sponsored Green Wing, an event that was instrumental in promoting the love of outdoors, hunting, and fishing among local youth. John will forever be remembered, by all who knew him, as a true Southern Gentleman. Surviving are his wife, Loretta Wallace Yeaman; his daughter Lori Campbell Yeaman, his son John Pannill Yeaman, Jr., and his sister, Alice Yeaman and her husband Tom Marriott. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 17, 2015 at McKee Stone Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with Father Gene Anderson officiating.
