Frances Newman Newman Davis

Frances Ruth Newman Davis, 92, of Martinsville, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at King’s Grant.
She was born January 15, 1924, in Patrick County, to the late Samuel Arthur and Martha Jane Wimbish Newman. She was a 1942 graduate of Martinsville High School and attended Patrick County Community College. She was a lifelong member of Broad Street Christian Church, where she served in many roles including Treasurer. She worked at the Martinsville Bulletin, then worked for Hooker Furniture. She later retired from First National Bank of Martinsville as a Teller. She was an avid reader, loved to play bridge, listened to “Big Band” music, loved to travel and most importantly, loved her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Walker Davis; brothers and sisters, Dewey Newman, Claude Newman, Eldon Newman, Ellen Floyd, Grace Smith, Una Maye Walker and Kathleen Engle.
She is survived by her sons, Robin W. Davis and wife Sharon of Charlotte, N.C. and Thomas P. Davis and wife Audrey of Ridgeway, VA.; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Friday 5 pm to 7 pm at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 109 Broad St., Martinsville.
Funeral Services will be Saturday 10 am at Broad Street Christian Church with Rev. Mark B. Parkinson and Chaplain Paul Johnson, officiating. Burial to follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family wishes to express its loving appreciation to all the staff at King’s Grant Retirement Village and Mountain Valley Hospice for the loving care given to Mrs. Davis in her final years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Davis’ name to Broad Street Christian Church or to the King’s Grant Fellowship Fund.
