Vincent Alonza Pugh

Vincent Alonza “Buddy” Pugh, 85, of Madison Heights, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016. He was the devoted husband of Arlene Dawson Pugh for nearly sixty-six years.
Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Vincent W. and Mary Elizabeth Harrison Pugh. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Naval Reserves Construction Forces (NCF) or “Seabees”, Battalion 23. He was an educator, also teaching technical drawing and drafting at Amherst County High School.
Among his greatest joys were his family and gardening. Vincent was a lifetime Deacon at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church where he could always be counted on for a smile, a hug, and an encouraging word. He was a member of American Legion Post 16. He was an avid Liberty University Football fan and a longtime Flames Club member.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pugh is survived by two sons, Stephen Vincent Pugh of Madison Heights and Richard Taylor Pugh of Fredericksburg; one daughter, Marianne Pugh Frichtel and her husband John Andrew Frichtel and one precious granddaughter, Maria Jayne Frichtel of Madison Heights. He is also survived by in-laws, Gene and Helene Soult and Leonard and Bea Dawson, and four nephews and their families.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11,2016 at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Derik Hamby officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Private family graveside services will be held Monday at Spring Hill Cemetery.
