Ronnie Joe Thomas, 74, of Madison Heights, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Salem VA Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Linda Bowling Thomas for 47 years.
Born on May 11, 1947 in Altavista, he was the son of the late Nera Ferguson and the late Joe Thomas. Ronnie served our country in the United Stated Army during Vietnam. He retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after 35 years of service. Ronnie enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his flower garden. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren, doing whatever they wanted to do. Ronnie had a strong faith and attended Tree of Life Ministries.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded by an infant sister, Wanda Sue Morris.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Linda Thomas; daughter, April Lynn Thomas Houston and husband Jason; three grandchildren, Jessica Caroline Houston, Jimmy Wayne Houston, and Thomas Jackson Houston; sister, Susan Ward; nieces, Erin Ward Johnston and husband Chris and Sarah Ward Thorn and husband Douglas; and great niece Freya Johnston.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Amherst Cemetery with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.
