Earl James “Pete” Childress, 85, of Gladys, died Sunday, August 4, 2013, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He is the husband of Jean Trent Davidson Childress.
Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Thomas Henry Childress and the late Dora Moore Childress. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Doug Childress, Ray Childress and Jewett Childress and two sisters, Virginia C. Deaner and Susie C. Shields.
Pete was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and was retired from the Archer Creek Plant of the Lynchburg Foundry Co.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Billy F. Childress and his wife, Barbara, of Lynchburg; two stepsons, Ronald Davidson and his wife, Patricia, of Appomattox and Timothy Davidson and his wife, Lynn, of Richmond; one sister, Ruth C. Franklin of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Michael Childress and his wife, Magda, Troy Childress and his wife, Heather, Kimberly D. Spraker, Brandy D. Meador and her husband, Nick, Tommy Davidson and Terry Davidson: six great grandchildren, Kaileigh Childress, Trystan Childress, Piper Childress, Terrence Burks, Gage Meador and Brody Meador and three nieces.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
The family will receive friends after the service at the residence of Billy Childress, 1712 Heritage Cr., Lynchburg, VA 24502.
