Dorothy Coates Crews

Dorothy Coates Crews, 88, of Lynchburg passed away December 2, 2023. She was born on November 6, 1935 in Halifax County, daughter of the late Elwood and Gracie Coates. Her husband of 63 years, Warnie H. Crews preceded her in death as well as a daughter, Margaret Ann Crews; two sisters, Barbara Ann Williams and Chrystine Martin and two brothers, Willie Lee Coates and James Lewis Coates. Dorothy was a loyal member of Timberlake Baptist Church. She was a good wife and very loving mother as well as being a very friendly and outgoing person who rarely missed any activities at the church. She is survived by two sons, Edward H. Crews, Sr. and his wife Connie and Kenneth Crews and his wife Barbara; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, and a brother, Leroy Coates and his wife Sylvia. A service celebrating her life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Dr. Bryan Ferrell officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday following the service at Halifax Memorial Garden in South Boston. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Gideon’s International.
