Charles Willis Burton, 83, of Forest, VA passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022. Twice married, he was the husband of Cathaleen Brown Witt Burton and the late Shirley Burke Burton.
Born August 7, 1939 in Charlotte County, VA, he was the son of the late Charles Willis Burton and Irene Clark Burton Lane. Raised with his brothers and sister at The Odd Fellows Home of Virginia in Lynchburg, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois B. Marshall and two brothers, Stanford M. Burton and Nolan P. Burton. Mr. Burton was a graduate and member of the Corps of Cadets of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a retired Professional Civil Engineer for Wiley & Wilson, Inc. with forty-three years of service. He was a longtime member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and attended Hyland Heights Baptist Church. In his service as a community leader, Mr. Burton, held the position of Deacon at TRBC for many years, as well as a supporter of The Gideon Internationals. He was a loving and faithful husband, father, and grandfather. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, working in his gardens, traveling, and photography.
In addition to his wife Cathaleen, Mr. Burton is survived by four children from his marriage to Shirley B. Burton; Lorri B. Manley and husband Garnet of Lynchburg, Dana B. Norman and husband Donnie of Forest, Kelly B. Limroth, of Forest, and Damon E. Burton of Lynchburg. Mr. Burton is the step-father of four children from his marriage to Cathaleen W. Burton; Victoria D. Witt of Mandeville, LA, Daniel N. Witt and wife Donna of Cullen, VA, Mark A. Witt and wife Carla of Harvest, AL, and Lisa R. Keen and husband Matthew of Lusby, MD.
Mr. Burton is also survived by grandchildren from his marriage with Shirley B. Burton; Rachel L. Manley, Garnet L. Manley, III, Gavin C. Limroth, Gracyn M. Limroth, Adelyn M. Limroth and Austin D. Norman, III, along with 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren from his marriage to Cathaleen W. Burton. He was also the beloved “Uncle Charlie” to 27 nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Burton’s life will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2022 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends, prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Burke Burton; his parents, Charles Willis Burton and Irene Clarke Burton Layne; a sister, Lois B. Marshall and two brothers, Stanford Burton and Nolan Burton.
Mr. Burton is survived by his wife, Cathaleen Brown Witt Burton; eight children, Lorri B. Manley and husband Garnet, Dana B. Norman and husband Donnie, Kelly B. Limroth, Damon E. Burton,Victoria D. Witt, Daniel N. Witt and wife Donna, Mark A. Witt and wife Carla,and Lisa R. Keen and husband Matthew; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
