Allen McDonald Bruton III (Don) age 82, passed away on March 14, 2024, after a twenty-year battle with complications suffered from a stroke. Born in Albemarle, NC, and raised in Loris, SC, Don was the eldest son of Allen Bruton II and Imogene (Jean) White Bruton. Don was a 1960 graduate of Wampee High School and attended the University of South Carolina briefly before returning home to help his ailing father run the family plumbing and electrical business. He married his high school sweetheart, Susie McLauchlin in 1964 and had two children. An Eagle Scout and dedicated wildlife supporter, Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed skeet shooting, boating, farming, collecting artifacts, and interesting rocks and arrowheads. He served the community as well as Master of Grand Strand Lodge #392 AFM in North Myrtle Beach and retired as the Director of Maintenance and Construction for Horry County. Don was a low country grill master and was well known for his BBQ and dove wrapped in bacon. Don is survived by his brother Tommy Bruton and his life partner Becky Stiller. He leaves behind his children, Molly Bruton and Amy Bruton Washco, his son-in-law, David Washco, his sister-in-law Bernadean Lamar, and his grandchildren Riley and Savannah Washco. Don was preceded in death by his sister Beth Bruton. The family has chosen to hold a private celebration of life to honor Don’s passing in the coming months. In place of flowers or other gifts, friends and extended family wishing to honor Don’s memory are invited to donate to the South Carolina Wildlife Federation.
