Sandra Sandy Banning Bowers

Sandra Bowers, 77, of Liberty, died Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Sycamore Springs Rehabilitation Center. Sandy was born on February 2, 1934 to John “Amzy” and Loree Hayward Banning in Fairfield. She was a member of Old Franklin United Methodist Church and was a 50+ year member of the Brookville Chapter # 449, Order of the Eastern Star. Sandy worked for GTE as a telephone operator. Sandy enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, embroidering and above all spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband: Robert J. Bowers; son and daughter-in-law: Robert L. and Debra Bowers of Liberty; daughter and son-in-law: Jo A. and Stan Minnick of Monon; sister: Hazel Brown of Shelbyville; five grandchildren: Michael D. Bowers of Indianapolis; Jason M. and Sherry Bowers of Newport News, VA; Brian D. and Kim Minnick of Evansville; Daniel R. Minnick of Smyrna, GA; Erin L. Minnick of Monon; two brothers-in-law: Roy Bowers of Liberty, Sebert Fridley of Hamilton, OH; two sisters-in-law: Linda Taylor and Dave Holiday, Mary Bowers all of Liberty, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by a brother: Amzy J. Banning, three brothers-in-law: John Bowers, Melvin Bowers, Dale Bowers; a sister-in-law: Nell Fridley. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, at the Old Franklin United Methodist Church with Pastor Rusty Hollingsworth officiating. Internment will follow in the Sims Cemetery. Friends may visit at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty Wednesday from 5 until 8:00 p.m. where Memorial contributions may be made to Old Franklin United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
